For instance, those plastic grocery bags you probably have tons of? In the ocean, those look like jellyfish. The leatherback turtle eats jellyfish. If he can't determine the difference between a grocery bag and a jellyfish, we had better be watching how many of those we throw away. Some are bound to end up in an ocean and could be the death of a turtle.
Our family enjoyed this. We booked the 2 hour tour online and had no problems. Our kids are 7 and 11. It is educational so there is a lot of sitting and listening before the touch pool, museum, dolphin, and sea lion. Follow the directions on the website to find the place and it isn't hard to find. I guess there are problems with some of the GPS directions.
I appreciate what they are doing here for marine life. The facility is nice and clean. However, I don't think this tour is appropriate for all kiddos. My rambunctious three year old twins struggled to sit through three different 20 minute "talks." They enjoyed the shows and touch and feel portions of the tour. It was a little long (over 2 hours) in my opinion.
For facts like this as well as a great dolphin and sea lion show, come to IMMS!
We had a great time. Paid for the dolphin encounter and had a blast feeding, touching and doing tricks with the dolphin. Will definitely go back once their new facility is opened.
IT WAS A BLAST!!! ALL questions were answered with a great deal of politeness and respect! More information was ALWAYS provided, which led to more questions from both children and adults, that were again, so willingly and politely answere! There were two new workers during the time of my visit with my nephew, his classmates and mom, and although it was their first day, overseeing how things work we were told, they too gracefully took part in the activities, answering questions, and assisting those in need with a great deal of ease and joy! All-in-all, IT WAS EXCLUSIVELY AMAZING AND I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT AGAIN & AGAIN & AGAIN & AGAIN..... Well, you get the point!
A great place to take both kids and adults alike. You learn so much about not only ocean mammals, but also birds, reptiles, and turtles. IMMS is also very good about giving you concrete information for how to help conserve marine animal populations.
